Start of a great institution - the chamber is formed

The date was March 2, 1857. Just two taps with a wooden ruler on a table in the Lord Mayor’s parlour was all it took to set in motion one of the city region’s greatest and most influential institutions - the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce. More >>

Where football kicked off ...

Sheffield FC, the world’s very first football club, was born in Sheffield on October 24th 1857. Soon other clubs began to spring up and by 1862 there were 15 clubs in and around the Sheffield area. More >>
