FA Cup debut for Blades as a professional starter
Involved in 1889 in the formation of Sheffield United Football Club at Bramall Lane, supplying some players for practice matches with the United professionals. At first it was difficult to find players but as a result of an advertising campaign, the club secretary was able to announce on May 29 1889 that they had been able to sign a full complement of players. United’s first season began in August 1889 with a 3-1 victory over Sheffield FC. That same season also saw United’s first appearance in the FA Cup. After winning four preliminary ties and then beating Burnley in the First Round proper, they were thrashed 13-0 by Bolton Wanderers – the heaviest defeat in their history.
As well as United’s early years, the our150th exhibition maps out the history of the club through their highs and lows and includes unique
