CLUB’S CENTENARY SIDE REUNITED
Members of Sheffield FC’s centenary side have been reunited – 50 years after they played together!
Eight players from the club’s 1957 team were invited to attend Sheffield FC's 1-0 win against Pickering Town at the Bright Finance Stadium in Dronfield. The reunion was part of the world’s oldest football club’s 150th anniversary celebrations this year.
Norman Cann, who captained the team during the centenary year, was joined by his brother and wing-half Derek Cann, goalkeeper Barry Palfreyman, centre-half Roy Bagworth, winger Pete Copley, inside-right Jack Wasden and inside-forwards Vic Wragg and Pete Havenhand.
Norman said: “Once a Sheffield Club player, always a Sheffield Club player.”
Keith Hardie, son of Jim Hardie, who was Sheffield FC secretary when the club marked their 100th anniversary in 1957, also attended the reunion.
Sheffield FC chairman Richard Tims, added: “It is terrific to have so many of the 1957 team together again. We are proud of our club’s history and these players were an important part of it.
“All of them were involved in the first ever football team to have been playing the game for 100 years, which is a remarkable global achievement.”
